The Manville Library Community Room was alive with color and conversation on the evening of Wednesday June 24th, as residents gathered for a family friendly Pride celebration. The event drew a mix of families, teens, longtime residents, and new faces all coming together to mark Pride Month with creativity, learning, and community spirit.

Children and adults crowded around tables covered in coloring pages, beads, and craft supplies, with many trying their hand at bracelet making or decorating Pride themed artwork. Stickers, temporary tattoos, flags, and pins, donated by community members, added to the festive atmosphere. Guests left with Pride themed swag bags, including rainbow sugar cookies that quickly became a crowd favorite.

Several speakers shared reflections on the importance of visibility, support, and community connection. Members of the Somerset County LGBTQ+ Advisory Board spoke about their ongoing advocacy and the work they do to ensure that LGBTQ+ residents across the county feel seen and supported.

The President of the Manville High School Gay Straight Alliance offered a student perspective, highlighting the club's efforts to create a welcoming environment at the high school and the importance of peer driven support.

Somerset County Commissioner Melonie Marano also addressed the crowd, reflecting on the work that began in 2020 to establish the county's LGBTQ+ Advisory Board and reaffirming her commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ residents.

The Manville Public Library contributed a curated display of age appropriate books by LGBTQ+ authors and featuring LGBTQ+ characters. Those in attendance were encouraged to sign up for a library card and explore the resources available to families and young readers.

What stood out most throughout the evening was the mix of generations sharing the space - young children proudly showing off their crafts, teens connecting with one another, and adults enjoying the chance to celebrate together. For many, seeing so many of Manville's youth participate with enthusiasm was a highlight of the night.
