Manville residents are invited to gather at the Manville VFW on Sunday, August 30th from 12pm to 3pm to mark the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Ida and the devastating flooding that impacted our community.
The event, hosted by the New Jersey Organizing Project/New Jersey Resource Project, will bring together survivors who are in various stages of the HARP and Blue Acres programs.
Organizers describe the gathering as an opportunity for residents to support one another, celebrate those who are moving forward, and help explain what many call the "Storm after the Storm" to those unfamiliar with the long recovery process.
Manville was one of New Jersey's hardest-hit communities during Hurricane Ida. On September 1, 2021, the remnants of the storm dropped more than 10 inches of rain in just three hours, causing the Raritan and Millstone rivers to crest and leading to widespread flooding throughout the Borough. Five years later, many families are still working to rebuild and recover.
This event hopes to provide space for connection, reflection, and continued community support as Manville marks this significant anniversary.
