In June, ManvilleToday reported that Dr. Jamil Maroun was stepping down as the Superintendent of the Manville School District which can be found here. Now an interim Superintendent has been named.

A press release announced that the Manville Board of Education has officially approved the appointment of veteran educator Robert Mooney as Interim Superintendent for the upcoming school year.

Mr. Mooney brings more than a decade of full-time superintendent experience to Manville, along with an extensive record of guiding districts through leadership transitions. After his initial retirement, he went on to serve as an interim superintendent in more than ten school districts across New Jersey.

In the press release, Board President Tina Breen said the Board was particularly struck by Mr. Mooney's approach to interim leadership. "During the interview process, one thing Mr. Mooney said particularly resonated with the Board: he measures his success as an interim superintendent by how successfully the next permanent superintendent transitions into the district," Breen said. "His goal is to keep Manville moving forward while ensuring our next superintendent inherits a district positioned for success. That philosophy is exactly what we were looking for."

Mr. Mooney will lead the district for the next 12 months while the Board conducts its search for a permanent superintendent. He has already begun working in the community, including participating in the Board's annual retreat to help establish goals for the academic year. Known for his accessible leadership style, he plans to maintain a strong, visible presence in Manville's schools and at community events.

Meanwhile, the Board has launched the process to identify Manville’s next permanent superintendent. Stakeholder feedback will play a key role in shaping the leadership profile for the district. In the coming weeks, the district will introduce a dedicated Superintendent Search page on its website, offering timelines, updates, and opportunities for community participation.
