The Council Meeting held on Monday June 23rd was mostly uneventful. Councilwoman Jade Puia and Councilwoman Patricia Zamorski were absent. The meeting flowed relatively quickly, and was shorter than prior recent meetings.
The biggest takeaways from the meeting was that more DPW equipment is breaking down. It was learned that the "larger mower" used by the DPW needs repairs, and they are awaiting estimates for the cost to repair. This is yet another piece of equipment that has broken down recently.
Due to the number of properties that have grass cut by the DPW, the Borough will also begin to explore hiring outside contractors to assist with grass cutting. This can be costly, based on Councilwoman Camacho's committee report comments.
It was also discussed that Manville is waiting for certification of the County tax rate by the State of NJ, so that they can proceed to finalizing property tax bills.
The Borough expects this to happen sometime in mid-July, which will allow the Borough to send out tax bills in late July to early August. The final tax rate remains unknown at this time.
There was a very short Closed Session, to which Council returned with a Resolution to pass. (#2025-176) This is in regard to the consultant services agreement with NJ Community Solutions LLC. The contract is being increased from $105,000 to $125,000, for up to an additional 2 weeks. (Prior extensions had up to 4 weeks.)
This is the 6th modification, and is now $93,000 more over the original contract amount of $32,000. NJ Community Services is providing Manville with an interim Borough Administrator and Clerk, and is assisting with Administrator search services.
