A Message From Chris Basista - Founder of ManvilleToday

I first want to open with wishing everyone a Happy New Year! Thank you for putting your trust in ManvilleToday since our launch in early 2024.
I had the idea of creating a hyper-local news resource for Manville residents, focused mostly on Manville's Mayor & Council back in late 2023. I heard from residents around town that they do not know what is happening with the Mayor & Council, and there was no longer a local newspaper resource solely focused on Manville.
Having experience in media since 2007, I decided it was time to branch out and launch ManvilleToday in early 2024.
The primary focus was to keep residents informed of the actions of Manville's Mayor & Council, and how their actions affect you, all on the local level.
ManvilleToday quickly received positive response in the community. Residents appreciate being kept in-the-know about what happens during Council meetings. Since not everyone has time to personally attend meetings, ManvilleToday was able to fill the local news void.
ManvilleToday has since expanded reporting, reporting on the Board of Education, Board of Health, and other relevant local topics.
ManvilleToday reports only the facts. All information contained within our articles is sourced from information that can be proven true. This includes elements such as Council meeting audio, meeting minutes, using the OPRA (Open Public Records Act) process to obtain documents specific to a certain topic, and more. We do not provide opinion news.
As you may know, I ran for Borough Council in the 2025 election, and won, receiving 1,601 votes. I am humbled that Manville residents have put their trust in me to represent them on Borough Council. It was a positive experience interacting with residents, and learning more about their concerns regarding our town.
To protect the integrity of ManvilleToday's reporting, I will be promoting Roberta Walters to Editor.
Roberta knows Manville, from having grown up here, and from moving back to her hometown in 2012. Many residents remember her mother, Loretta Walters, who was a school teacher. Roberta worked with her therapy dog Bella at the Manville Library and Manville Schools for many years. Roberta is involved in Manville's community, from working the food pantry, to being a former recreation member, and being a deputy OEM coordinator.
While the election season was underway, we discussed plans for ManvilleToday if I was elected to Council. Roberta has been working with me as the Assistant Editor since ManvilleToday was launched, and knows the processes involved in news gathering, and how to communicate information in a non-biased manner.
I know Roberta will continue to provide residents with all they need to know about what is happening in Manville, in the same manner as I have for almost two years.
I am not stepping down from ManvilleToday. I will still be writing stories regarding community events, and other topics that are not related to Borough Council. I feel that this is the best way forward, to ensure that as a Councilmember, I am also held to the same standard as we held Councilmembers and the Mayor in prior reporting.
ManvilleToday will continue to be a vital local news resource for residents. We’re currently working on an updated smartphone app with more functionality. The best new feature being released soon is a weather area, which provides general weather information, alerts, and river data for the rivers affecting Manville. Our focus will always be on you, the Manville resident.
In closing, I want to thank everyone for their support and trust they put in ManvilleToday, and now as of January 3rd, a Councilmember.
