UPDATE 8/7 3pm ET: After our story was published, the Borough sent out a push alert to the My Manville app shortly after 2pm. The message instructs residents to visit Borough Hall to obtain a printed version, or go online to look up their new tax information. From the alert, they appear to be passing the blame to the Post Office, however, this still doesn't explain why some residents received duplicates, and how some mortgage companies never received the updated information, either.
We're hearing reports that some residents received their property tax bills in duplicate. Yes, two pieces of mail containing the exact same bill. And, we're hearing some residents (including Manville.Today's writers) did not receive their tax bill at all.
Why does it seem that Borough Hall is not being run correctly? Printing and distributing tax bills should not be a complicated process, as the Borough has printed and mailed bills countless times before.
Even if you did not receive your property tax bill, it's still due on August 30, otherwise you will incur interest charges.
The Borough even posted a message on their website stating such:
Some residents reported to us that their mortgage holders also did not receive copies of the tax bills. Residents who escrow their mortgage payments could be impacted as their lenders may not send the correct tax payment amount to the Borough resulting in interest penalties and late fees.
While larger banks might be able to receive this information electronically, what about smaller banks and Credit Unions that are not set up for this? Will the Borough send copies to those financial institutions to ensure accurate payments?
What about Manville's Seniors who may not have computer or Internet access, and didn't receive their bill? This is just continued poor management of Manville's Borough Hall by our Mayor & Council.
Property tax bills should have been properly sent to all residents. How could they not catch the error of duplicated bills before they were mailed? This adds up to another unnecessary expense when our Mayor & Council state they want to save money.
And will residents who didn't receive their bills eventually receive them? We'll have to wait and find out.
