Manville's Mayor & Council will meet at 4pm on Monday, August 25th, for a Special Meeting.
At the last Special Meeting, some residents in attendance inquired why the meetings are not held in the evening, when more residents would be available to attend. Special Meetings have always been typically held in the afternoon.
At Monday's meeting, the Mayor & Council will be introducing an Ordinance for the first reading regarding appropriating $1,175,000 for the 2025 Capital Budget. Questions from the public regarding this Ordinance will be held at the next meeting on September 8th.
There are several Resolutions on the agenda, which includes modifying the agreement with NJ Community Solutions for the Borough's interim Administrator. This will permit a further spend increase of $29,100, for a total spend not to exceed $178,600.
The Borough will be hiring, assuming the Resolution passes, a part time Administrative Assistant to the Department of Administration, Christopher Calles. He will work for up to 25 hours per week at the rate of $20 per hour. He will not be eligible for health benefits or paid time off. Sick time will accrue at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
There is also a Resolution for property liens. These are normal, and are typically for property maintenance issues or other issues, but one property stands out in the list.
The former Bank of America building on Main Street is having a lien placed against it in the amount of $5,473.47. The building is no longer owned by Bank of America, and was sold at auction in 2022 for only $250,000, and sold again in early 2024 for just over $1 million. The current owners have not paid property taxes on 69 South Main since November 2024, totaling $16,043.14. (Source: Manville property tax website)
