The flash flooding in Manville has ended. After 9pm, street flooding receded, and all roads were once again open, per a social media post by Manville OEM.

The heat and high dewpoints contributed to the storms experienced Monday. The atmosphere had a lot of moisture, making conditions favorable to create storms that unleash large amounts of heavy rain.

During the flash flooding, it was treacherous to travel in town. It was recommended by authorities, via several cellphone alerts, that you should stay home, and travel is not recommended. It was not safe to travel in these conditions.

Many who were travelling in Manville had to navigate around closed roads. Roads that remained open still had significant amounts of water covering the roadway. The amount of rain that fell within such a short period of time caused storm drains to not be able to keep up with the flow.

Many residents in low lying areas, such as Lost Valley, moved their cars to higher ground at the Rustic Mall as a precautionary measure.

Per the latest information from the USGS flood gauge website, the Raritan River at Manville is not expected to flood. The forecast (as of 11:15pm on 7/14) shows the river will be at 6.70 feet Tuesday afternoon, which is well below the "action" stage of 12 feet.
