The Manville School District is celebrating a major moment of pride after three members of the Board of Education were formally recognized by the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) for their exceptional service and leadership. The honors were presented at the Somerset County School Boards Association meeting on Monday, May 4, 2026.

Board President Tina Breen and Board Member Debra Babich received the prestigious Master Board Member (MBM) Certification, the highest individual distinction offered by NJSBA. While the district first acknowledged their accomplishment earlier this year, Monday's meeting marked the official presentation of their certifications.

Earning the MBM designation is no small feat. It represents years of advanced training and statewide leadership work, including more than 40 credits in areas such as school finance, labor relations, curriculum oversight, and strategic planning. Recipients must also participate in statewide governance sessions and demonstrate a deep understanding of the legal and ethical responsibilities required to guide a modern school district.

The evening also included a special recognition for Louis Petzinger, who received the NJSBA Milestone Award for 15 years of service on the Manville Board of Education. His 15 years of volunteer leadership reflects a long standing commitment to the community and provides the district with invaluable historical perspective.

Superintendent Dr. Maroun praised the honorees, noting the significance of having both highly trained and deeply experienced board members serving the district.

"This is a proud moment for the Manville School District," Dr. Maroun said. "To have two members reach the highest level of state certification while another celebrates 15 years of service speaks volumes about the caliber of leadership in our board."

Together, the achievements of Ms. Breen, Ms. Babich, and Mr. Petzinger highlight the strength and stability of Manville's Board of Education, and the district's ongoing commitment to its guiding mission: Every Child! Every Day!
