Community events are a good thing. They bring people together in town to celebrate various events, and is what community is all about.
But what's interesting is the $7,500 authorized by Resolution (#2024-194) that will be spent on a 4th of July fireworks display at Lincoln Park in Lost Valley next year.
Last July, there was an unfortunate event that occurred in the Valley from the use of an explosive device. While the explosion was not related to the Block Party being held in the Valley, there was a fireworks show promoted for that evening by the block party's hosts, one of which is a sitting Councilwoman.
It's interesting that there will be an "official" 4th of July fireworks show next year in the Valley, for which taxpayers will be paying for.
While community events are a good thing, it does raise the question of the interest in an official fireworks display.
