A revised parking Ordinance was adopted during the Council meeting held on September 14th. The Ordinance for parking on streets during a snow event has been updated to include all streets within Manville. Previously only identified "emergency streets" called for no parking, with an exception that if a snow emergency was declared, then there would be no parking on any Borough road.

The new Ordinance now calls for no parking on any street when the road is snow covered. Those who do not follow the no parking rules risk being issued a ticket and having their vehicle towed.

The Ordinance states: "Whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the streets and highways causing a plowable event, an emergency shall exist and no vehicle shall be parked on any streets or highways or portions thereof. The parking prohibitions shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic."

During the time of a snow event, residents can park on their lawns, or in one of several municipal parking lots. Parking lots include those at Borough Hall, the parking lot at The Heart of Main, as well as the Manville Public Library. If you choose to park in one of the municipal lots you can remain parked there until 12 hours after a snow event has concluded.

Other surrounding towns have similar laws regarding no street parking during snow events including Hillsborough and Bound Brook.

The Borough tested the no parking during a snow emergency last winter, and it received positive feedback from residents. DPW was able to plow the roads, particularly the side streets, much more efficiently as it allowed the roads to be plowed without vehicles in the way.

The Ordinance was approved unanimously by the Borough Council. Going forward, whenever a storm produces enough snow to plow, residents will need to move their cars off the street to help ensure safe and efficient cleanup. Street parking can resume once the plows have finished their work.
