Before the formal Council meeting began on Monday, April 27th, a Proclamation was read into the record by Councilwoman Danya Camacho honoring Alina Colon, a young resident of the Borough.
The Proclamation honored Alina for demonstrating a remarkable sense of responsibility, kindness, and determination well beyond her years. Alina recognized the need for improvement at Duke's Park, and took it upon herself to help restore and care for a space that brings joy to so many in our community.
Her willingness to take action, rather than wait for others, reflects a rare and admirable mindset, showing that true leadership is defined not by age, but by compassion and courage.
Protecting the parks is not the only thing Alina has achieved. She has raised funds to support the Manville Fire Department and is planning future efforts to benefit the Manville Police Department.
Alina's actions serve as a powerful reminder that one person, no matter how young, can inspire an entire community through thoughtfulness, perseverance, and heart.
Because of her actions, the Mayor and Borough Council expressed their sincere gratitude and admiration for Alina by recognizing her as an outstanding young leader whose compassion and initiative embody the very best of our community.
Alina thanked the Mayor and Council, and received a basket full of supplies from Police Chief Jeremiah to help start her lemonade stand as well as a teddy bear and backpack.
