The Manville Board of Education held its final public budget hearing on Wednesday, April 29th, drawing a full crowd for the district's monthly student and staff recognitions. The cafeteria was packed as the Board honored students, teachers, and staff members for their achievements, including the Junior Honor Society students who received special acknowledgment. The recognitions set an uplifting tone before the Board moved into the business portion of the meeting.
Once the celebrations concluded, a very small number of residents remained for the final budget presentation.
Superintendent Dr. Jamil Maroun took his time to present the budget slides. The presentation appeared to have been revised to address questions and feedback raised at the previous meeting.
During the Board's committee report portion, Mr. Petzinger referenced two OPRA requests submitted after the initial presentation. These OPRAs appeared to have an impact on the additional detail provided during the final budget presentation.
While the updated information in the budget presentation offered a clearer breakdown of the factors driving the tax levy increase, the proposed budget amount itself remained unchanged. When the public comment portion opened, no residents came forward with questions or remarks.
The Board then proceeded to a vote. Mrs. Sharon Lukac was absent, and Mr. Tyler Canica voted no. The remaining Board members voted yes, allowing the motion to pass.
Per our prior reporting, the tax levy for the school-side of property tax bills will increase 6%.
